1. Who we are
Žinok ("we", "us") is a Lithuanian language learning app operated by Zinok, based in Lithuania. We are the data controller for personal data collected through this service.
2. What data we collect
- Account data: your email address and the date you created your account.
- Subscription data: your subscription status and the date you subscribed. Payment details (card number, billing address) are handled exclusively by Stripe and are never stored by us.
- Learning progress: vocabulary review history (SRS ratings and next-review dates), and grammar, reading, and listening completion records stored in your account.
- Push notification token: if you enable notifications, a device token is stored via Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver daily reminders. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
- Preferences: your selected level and guest-mode progress, stored locally on your device only.
- Analytics data (with your consent only): anonymised usage events such as sign-up method and checkout initiation, collected via Firebase Analytics. This data is only collected if you click "Accept" on the analytics banner. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser data.

4. How we use your data
- To provide and personalise the app experience.
- To manage your subscription and verify access to paid content.
- To send daily learning reminders (push notifications, only if you opt in).
- To respond to support requests.
- To understand how the app is used and improve it (analytics, only with consent).
We do not sell your data to third parties, and we do not use it for advertising.
5. Third-party services and data transfers
We use the following processors, all of whom may store data outside the EU. Transfers are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission.
- Firebase (Google): authentication, database, hosting, push notifications, and (with your consent) analytics. See Firebase Privacy.
- Stripe: payment processing. Stripe is PCI-DSS compliant. We never see or store your card details. See Stripe Privacy Policy.
6. Cookies and local storage
We use browser local storage to remember your level preference, session state, and your analytics consent choice. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Firebase Analytics (if you consent) may set first-party cookies to distinguish sessions — no data is shared with third-party advertisers.
7. Data retention
Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from inside the app (Account → Delete account), which permanently removes your data from our database within 30 days. You may also email us to request deletion.
8. Your rights (GDPR)
As a resident of the EU/EEA you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data.
- Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Restriction — request that we limit processing of your data.
- Portability — receive a copy of your data in a machine-readable format.
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Withdraw consent for analytics at any time, without affecting prior processing.
- Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority (in Lithuania: VDAI).

9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date above. The current version is always available at zinok.app/privacy.html.
